As the weather becomes warmer and deck gatherings and BBQ's become more commonplace, I decided to share my grandmother's delicious burger recipe that she invented. Not only is this burger extremely simple to make, but it makes plain beef burgers look like old news. What I love about these burgers is that you can add pretty much anything to them and customize them to your guest's liking. I made them last weekend for a bunch of friends and they raved about them. Enjoy the recipe!
Buffed Up Burgers
1 lb 85% lean ground beef
1/2 cup diced Crimini mushrooms
1/2 cup diced sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 a jalapeno (diced, seeds and veins optional)
2-3 tablespoons Heinz 57 sauce
1 egg
Instructions:
1. Finely dice the mushrooms, jalapeno and cheddar cheese into small pieces (roughly dime sized)
2. Add the ground beef to a large bowl and add the above ingredients without mixing yet.
3. Add 2-3 tablespoons of the Heinz 57 sauce and 1 egg and mix together (with clean hands).
4. Make sure that you don't over-mix the meat, or else the burgers will be dry. Only mix until the meat is evenly distributed with the egg, sauce and toppings.
5. Section off into patties about the size of your fist and put in the fridge for 30 min. The longer you keep them in the fridge the better they will stay together when you grill them.
6. Heat the grill up and grill your burgers! Be careful when you flip them for you don't want them to fall apart.
7. Serve with a bun, lettuce, tomato, onion and whatever else you like on your burgers!
You can always change the items you put into the burgers. For example, a combo of blue cheese, mushrooms and onions would be delicious. However, feel free to mix in the toppings you prefer!
